D. L. Moody said that on the banks of the Adriatic Sea the wives of the fishermen, whose husbands had gone out upon the deep, would gather on the shore at night. There they would sing, and their voices would carry the first verse of some beautiful hymn across the water. Then they would listen until they would hear the second verse sung by their husbands as they fished away from the shore. When the song was finished then both were happy to know that “All Was Well.”
Perhaps if we would listen, we too might hear on this storm-tossed world of ours, some whisper, some voice from a brighter shore telling us that Heaven is our home. The Bible teaches us that while we are running life’s race, we have a great cloud of witnesses who have already won their crown, and now, they are cheering us on. Perhaps they are singing to us who are still a distance from the shore: “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.”
I know that some people believe Heaven is something to think about later. There is too much business and pleasure upon this earth; and after all, Christians are called to serve the Master here and now. That is true, yet if we would pay attention to Jesus’ work in the Gospels: He worked here while His thoughts were always there.
The saints have always faithfully endured much on the earth because there is much to gain in Heaven. The one who is not concerned about where he or she is going until they get there will likely get off the way. The lady on my GPS will not be quiet until I am back on the right way. How much more, those voices from Heaven, are encouraging us to stay on the road to home.
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
