Proverbs 18:24
“There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
“A FRIEND WHO STICKS CLOSER THAN A BROTHER”
“And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We call him “Savior,” and we call him “Lord.” He is all these things and so much more.
I awakened this morning with a song, and a thought, whispering in my soul. “What a friend we have in Jesus…” From childhood until now, Jesus has been the truest of friends; and I am perfectly confident that will not change throughout eternity.
Consistency in friendship is far more valuable than silver and gold. When someone says, “I will always be there for you, I will never leave or forsake you, call and I will answer,” and they prove it time and time again; then, we have discovered the pearl of greatest price.
Who else do we know that will forgive us seventy times seven, and will never bring up yesterday’s shame? Even when we tossed the keys to the kingdom back at him and said that we don’t want them anymore; He patiently held them and returned them when we cooled off after a while.
I can’t tell you how many times my feet have frozen in fear of where I had to go. Then warm invisible arms embraced me with a gentle nudge that said, “You do not have to do this by yourself.”
Who else will laugh and weep with you, but will never treat you like a fool, or make you cry with painful words? In our darkest hours He lights our path, and in our confusion, He leads the way we should go. If you know my Jesus, you know that this is true. If you do not, He wants to be your friend too.
“I’ve found a Friend, oh, such a friend!
He loved me ere I knew Him;
He drew me with the cords of love,
And thus He bound me to Him.
And round my heart still closely twine
Those ties which naught can sever,
For I am His, and He is mine,
Forever and forever.”
