Psalm 73:22 (Read Psalm 73)
So foolish was I, and ignorant…
These are the words of God’s chosen king of Israel. I think they will be the words of many of us when we come before God. The psalmist struggled with how the righteous often suffer while some who scorn God get along with ease. He said that this almost cost him to slip off the pathway of God.
Have you ever been foolish? We must understand the psalmist definition of foolishness: “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.” It is not likely that we have said those words, but haven’t we acted at times like there was no God; especially when life hit us unfairly?
It is amazing that things changed for him when he went to the sanctuary. Going to the house of the Lord has helped many people find perspective. There he realized that it is not how smooth or rough the path of life may be, but where the path we walk is leading us, where we end up.
To follow Christ is to have the assurance of things that the critics of God, and the unbelievers do not have. You have a friend in God who holds your hand, guides you, and when you have gone the last mile of the way he will receive you into glory. No matter how rough the path may be, it is good to draw near to God.
Tomorrow is the Lord’s Day, take some time to stop by the house of God and regain some perspective in this chaotic world. When we worship together our foolish thoughts fade like the morning fog, and we remember where we are going.
So, your path seems rough. You are not alone, God walks with you, and we are going to end up in the right place.
“It will be worth it all
when we see Jesus!
Life’s trials will seem so small
when we see Christ.
One glimpse of his dear face,
all sorrow will erase.
So, bravely run the race
till we see Christ.”
