Luke 10:41-42

“And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful…”

“BE STILL AND KNOW I AM GOD”

Multitasking is a term that is used a lot. Many of us can remember a time when the term did not exist. It is sometimes called “Burning a candle at both ends.” Doing that will only use up a candle (or our life) twice as fast. It is already catching up to us in less quality productivity, and a nervous, frustrated, and agitated society. It appears to be here to stay unless we become intentional about getting our life back to a healthy pace. There is a Haitian proverb that says, “The dog has four feet, but he does not walk down four roads at the same time.”

As Christians we may have various works to do, but we all have only ONE to focus on. The Bible says that we are to keep our eyes on Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.

I am aware of how busy things can be in our lives. Who doesn’t have times of anxiousness when everything hits us at the same time? When I have those moments, and get out-of-sorts, Pat will tell me to “just do the next thing.”

Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at something that doesn’t really matter. Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount that our eyes should be single (healthy, by focusing on what is right); then our life will be filled with the light of His glory.

D. L. Moody said, “Give me a worker who says, ‘This one thing I do,’ not, ‘these fifty I dabble in.”

“In the midst of my confusion, in the time of desperate need; when I am thinking not too clearly, a gentle voice does intercede, slow down, slow down, be still, be still… When I’m feeling so unsure, when things are pressing in about me, comes a gentle voice so still, so pure: slow down, slow down, be still, be still, be still and wait, on the Spirit of the Lord. Slow down and hear His voice and know that He is God.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
