Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
John 3:8
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit”
The wind has its own unseen path to travel. We cannot see where it is going, but it marks a trail of where it has been. The same is true when we follow the Holy Spirit. His path before us is unseen. We may hear a sound of a rushing mighty wind from Heaven, or hear the silence of a gentle breeze; but who can know where He is going? There are no footprints in the wind, so when we are led by the Holy Spirit it is totally by faith.
There is no such thing as a predictable faith where we plan out our walk with God like a person would plan a trip? Life doesn’t come with an itinerary and schedule. When Jesus called the disciples to follow Him; I notice that not one of them asked where they were going; they just went.
If Pat and I had planned where we would be, and how we would serve the Lord, I am certain that we would have missed out on the wonderful life that God has blessed us with. We have followed the breath of God, and traveled hand in hand across an unseen pathway of life. It has not been without some hard times and tears; but the goodness of the way has been so much more.
The Spirit of God is not just something that descends on us once in a while to create joy in a worship service. It is God breathing down our neck as we live day by day. There is an unseen hand to hold along an unseen way.
A Hymn that I love says, “My way in life which Thou shalt choose, I know will be the best. And through the trust I have in Thee, my heart will find its rest. Have Thou Thy way in all my life, till I become like Thee.”
My Prayer is that on this very day we might hear a Sound from Heaven. Breath on us O Breath of God; and blow Wind blow. Open up the path that leads us all to Thee. Divide the waters that tell us we can’t go; lift us up on eagle’s wings and let us soar in the sky of a new day as we touch the face of God. Amen”
