CHRISTMAS, Day 3
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law.” Galatians 4:4
“Enjoy them while they are young, they grow up in a hurry.” I don’t know how many times we heard those words when we were raising our children; now I am among those who say it to young parents. The Bible zips through the boyhood of Jesus with a couple of stories and then he is an adult who shows up at the Jordan River.
Paul wrote that Jesus was born under the law. Every child is at the mercy of the parents to do what is right for him/her. Luke wrote that Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
Let every Christian home bring up the children in the way that they should go. And let every Church take seriously our responsibility to lead our children to the heart of God.
Luke wrote that the child, Jesus, grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him. I am intrigued with the words, “the grace of God was upon him.” God’s Son lived by grace just like the rest of us. He refused the opportunity to be a spoiled child of God. From birth until death Jesus was truly “in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)
He was God in a little boy’s body. He had a destiny, but first he had a childhood. There were hills to run and climb, bugs to catch, Galilee’s lake to swim in; and soon enough a cross to bear.
What did you say Mary? Did we hear you say, “Enjoy them while they are young, they grow up in a hurry?”
“Jesus, Jesus, O what a wonderful child.
Jesus, Jesus, so holy, meek and mild;
new life, new hope the child will bring.
Listen to the angels sing:
‘Glory, glory, glory!’
Let the heavens ring.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
