“Ray Amos – Come Home; Come Home”
From March 28th, 2024

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

“Come home, come home it’s supper time,
The shadows lengthen fast,
Come home, come home it’s supper time,
We’re going home at last.”

“Supper time,” that wonderful time when family and friends gather at the table. It’s almost extinct in our “I’m too busy to eat” society. The table was once a family altar for the Christian home. We were reminded daily that God is our provider: “Bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies, and us to Thy service.”

At the supper table you looked into each other’s eyes, and there was conversation, not cellphones, to occupy your time. If your day was happy or sad, good or bad; your countenance gave it away. It always showed up at the supper table.

Farewell suppers are the most difficult. The best food is hard to swallow when your eyes are filled with tears. The Lord’s Last Supper must have been an emotional time. Jesus’ heart was filled with love and compassion for his friends. “Having loved them, He loved them to the end.”

“When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him. And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Luke 22:14-16

Jesus desired this supper; We know those meals when someone plans, cooks and prepares with so much love; Just wanting one more time with loved ones at the table.

It is Maundy Thursday. “While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body.’ And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood…As often as you do this: REMEMBER ME.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
