Matthew 2:9
“…behold the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.”
“DO NOT BE WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES”
Isn’t it strange that the same ones we call the wise men were the first to get off the Christmas path? All was going well until they came to the Jerusalem intersection and the star said to keep going, but they thought that they knew better.
It just made sense that the King of the Jews would be born in a Jerusalem palace, but the star said otherwise. The only thing they found in Jerusalem was an angry king who did not want to hear about this newborn baby.
What gets us off the Christmas path? Is it a busy schedule, the financial burden of Christmas commercialism, loneliness, or the heartbreaking events of our day? Have we become like the wise men asking the wrong people, “Where is he?” He was in the right place it was the wise men that were where they shouldn’t be.
There is nothing like regaining our focus and getting back on the right pathway. Mathew wrote, “When they saw the star (again) they rejoiced with exceeding great joy…they came and found the young child and fell down and worshiped him.”
Let’s keep our eyes of faith fixed on Jesus. He is the only way to God. It is when we begin to think we know a better way to experience life that we get lost.
We often quote Proverbs 3:5-6, but perhaps we should. include verse 7 also: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. DO NOT BE WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES.”
