“…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love…” Ephesians 3:17

Rooted in Love; Many beautiful flowers have been rooted from another plant. A root was taken and placed in water for a brief while, and then planted in soil.

It is the prayer of Scripture that we are rooted in Love. This happens when Christ lives in our very being. When roots grow deep into the heart of God; then life grows tall and beautiful as it daily reaches toward Heaven above. Such a life bring strength, hope, and godliness to a world that needs more beauty along the way.

To be rooted is to be deeply established, and firmly committed. We live in challenging times. Society has a way of pulling the wool over our eyes and convincing us that wrong is right and right is wrong. Do our roots go deep enough into the fields of God’s Holy Word that we cannot be fooled? Like the Bereans of Acts 17:11, who received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what the apostles taught was true.

A person who is rooted in Love stands strong through fear and storms. When other trees bend and shake through the tempest of life, the mighty oak stands tall against the winds. Sure, some oaks have fallen; but they stood without bending, just like the cross on Calvary’s hill. The hymn is right that says,

“There by itself like a tree it shows:
That high it reaches as deep it grows
And when the storms are its branches shaking,
It deeper root in the soil is taking.

Be then no more by a storm dismayed,
For by it the full-grown seeds are laid;
And though the tree by its might it shatters,
What then, if thousands of seeds it scatters?”
