“…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love…” Ephesians 3:17
“Rooted in Love,” Many beautiful flowers have been rooted from another plant. A root was taken and placed in water for a brief while, and then planted in soil. It then begins to grow deeper into the ground, and at the same time, it also grows taller reaching toward the sun above.
It is the prayer of Scripture that we are rooted in Love. This happens when Christ lives in our very being. When roots grow deep into the heart of God; then our lives can grow tall and beautiful as they reach toward Heaven above. Such Christians bring strength, hope, and godliness to a world that has become weedy. Every Christian can bloom and bear fruit.
To be rooted is to be deeply established, and firmly committed. We live in challenging times. Society has a way of pulling the wool over our eyes and convincing us that wrong is right and right is wrong. Do our roots go deep enough into the fields of God’s Holy Word that we cannot be fooled?
May we be like the Bereans of Acts 17:11, who received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
We are rooted because someone believed that we could be more than we were. A man planted what appeared to be dead sticks on a hillside. In time he owned a beautiful and fruitful vineyard. God did the same thing on another hill with a cross and a dying savior; and he saves all who are willing to be rooted in the Love of God.
“Near the cross I’ll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.”
