“Ray Amos – Ephesians 6:17”

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17

Two soldiers talked early in the morning. It would be over soon, and victory was certain. It was like a pit bull coming up against a chihuahua; there was no way they could lose this fight. The younger one asked, “Do you really think that it will be that easy?” The older warrior laughed with a gruffness that echoed through the valley; “We are seasoned soldiers with weapons and armor. They are a poorly equipped army who tremble when I roar.”

Across the hill a young man prayed as he skipped rocks in a stream and anticipated the day. It would be over soon, and God would prevail. He could do this with the help his Heavenly Father: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Daylight was breaking through the night; so, he finished praying on his protection, put some stones in his pocket, and went to face the foe. “I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”

Back in the other camp the overly confident soldier stood and took his sword in hand. He sure was a giant of a man and a bully who intimidated the best of soldiers just by the sound of his voice. The younger one asked, “Aren’t you going to wear your helmet?” “You know I neither like it nor need it. That young man will never get that close. It is enough talk, time to go.”

He walked toward what he knew was a sure victory. His helmet in the tent with his name written on it, “Goliath.”

Before we face the day remember that we should pray; and never forget that no matter how big the challenge, our God is greater; and Satan may be mighty, but God is almighty. One more thing, before you go out, be sure to put on the whole armor of God.

“Leave no unguarded place,
no weakness of the soul;
take every virtue, every grace,
and fortify the whole.
That, having all things done
and all your conflicts past,
ye may overcome thro’ Christ alone
and stand complete at last.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
