“Faith Continued”
“Daniel continued to go to his house, which had windows in its upper room open toward Jerusalem, and to get down on his knees three times a day to pray to his God and praise him, just as he had done previously.” Daniel 6:10
Daniel had just learned of the new law that he was no longer allowed to pray. The above scripture is his response. It was not one of those “I will show you” responses; but rather it was “faith continued.” His walk with God was not a showpiece of hypocrisy where he wanted to appear righteous, but a humble life of doing what he always had done because it was the right thing to do.
I remember several years ago when a lot of people were upset with the school board over some curriculum that was contrary to Christian standards. Our church sanctuary was used for a community meeting concerning the plans. One woman was very vocal about how “our children need Christian teaching in times like these.” No one would argue that point; and I was surprised when later I asked her where she attended church, and she told me that she and her family did not attend church anywhere. Some who have fussed about no prayer in school are the same who neither have prayer in their home.
Hit and miss faith is not faith at all. We see a steadfast faith in Daniel. He continued to do what he had always done. I heard about a little boy who was asked, “Is your daddy a Christian?” He answered, “everyday but Saturday.” We would not want the Lord to take a day off from being our Savior; and neither should we be anything else but faithful to the Lord every hour of every day.
I have not heard this one in a long time:
“Well, every hour and every day,
Well, every moment, in every way;
I’m leaning on Jesus the rock of my soul,
I’m singing His praises wherever I go.”
