“Ray Amos – Forgive Us Our Trespasses”
From May 25th, 2024

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

I don’t know how great actors get discovered. I had my chance once, but the talent scouts must have been somewhere else. It was our sixth grade class play. I played the character of a hillbilly. As the song says, “All I had to do was act naturally.” I made a mustache from a piece of fodder twine, and dyed it black with shoe polish. I can even remember my one line speaking part: “Yep, I take a bath every Saturday night whether I need it or not.”

At least it has given me a memory and a thought to write about. “Yep, we pray for God to forgive us our trespasses every Sunday whether we think that we need it or not.”

Peter once refused to let Jesus wash his feet. The Lord said, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with me.” Then Peter begged to be washed completely. Jesus said that isn’t necessary. The person who is already clean only needs to wash his/her feet.

It is beach time for many. You will get under the outdoor shower to wash the sand off. Then you may get more sand on your feet as you walk to the room, so before you go in the room you have to clean again; but only your feet.

As Christians we have been washed by the blood of Christ; our soul has been made clean. We do not have to be washed completely every week. Yet, we have walked in a sinful world that gets on us. I need a daily soul washing, the kind that comes when we pray, “Forgive us our trespasses…”

“From Every Stain Made Clean,
From Every Sin Set Free;
Oh, Blessed Lord, This Is The Gift
That Thou Hast Promised Me.
And Pressing Through The Past
Of Failure, Fault, And Fear,
Before Thy Cross My All I Cast,
And Dare To Leave It There.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
