Friendship with Jesus
“…And he was called the friend of God.”
“James 2:23”
“Nothing is going to happen today that The Lord and I can’t handle.” Those were some of the favorite words of a dear Saint of God I once knew. His life had proven them true. Jesus was his friend, and they shared each day together. When facing difficult situations, he would say, “They had better be ready to meet my friend.”
Who is your best friend? Who answers even before you call, and is close enough to overhear anything that is said to you? Who puts a hand on your shoulder when the storms are raging and says, “Don’t be afraid?”
He prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies. That means that He gives peace when we are surrounded by a cruel world. We can feast with our Friend and laugh and live; the enemy will not bother Him.
When David had thousands of reasons to worry through sleepless nights, he slept well because his Friend who neither slumbers or sleeps said, “rest and do not worry; I will keep watch through the night.”
Jesus said to all who will trust Him, “You are my friends if you will do what I say.” (Not an expression of, “I must be the boss,” but “You must trust my friendship; trust my love and power in order for it to bless you.”)
This should take us back a few years:
“A friend of Jesus! Oh, what bliss
That one so weak as I
Should ever have a Friend like this
To lead me to the sky!
Friendship with Jesus!
Fellowship divine!
Oh, what blessed, sweet communion!
Jesus is a Friend of mine.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
