Philippians 3:13

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.”

“GETTING ON DOWN THE ROAD”

The journey could have been short, perhaps a few weeks; but it took forty years. God was leading them with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. He supplied their every need; but it was never enough for their “we want more and better” demands. At the first sign of trouble, they were always ready to run right back to the life that they had prayed to be free from.

It took forty years to get the old life out of their hearts. The ones that crossed over into the Promised Land had no memories of those days of bondage.

Sometimes we have got to “Get on down the road” if we want to get to where we are going. We must look the old cravings in the face and say, “No More!” It is time for some to set their eyes on Jesus and follow. Press on, do not look back.

“Go and sin no more,” Jesus said to a woman set free; would He say less to us? “Grow up!” is pretty much what Paul said to some Christians. Get rid of the baby bottle and take hold of the meat of the Gospel. If you are going to start something, then finish it is what Jesus taught. “Otherwise, if you lay the foundation and are unable to finish the work, everyone who sees it will ridicule you…” Luke 14:29

Aunt Clara had a cow that would break through the fence to graze on the other side, and then, break through again to come back home. Is it possible that we as Christians sometimes try to graze the wild grass on the other side of the fence, and then, sneak back into the green pastures in the fields of the Lord? Perhaps it is time to move away from the fence.

Another great Gospel song:
“I’ve Come Too Far To Look Back Again.
There Is Nothing Behind Me.
All The Treasures I Used To Love.
Have All Faded From View.
There’s A New Day Ahead For Me.
All My Heartache Is Over.
For I Left It At Calvary.
Where My New Life Began.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
