“Godly Communication”
“To make an apt answer is a joy to anyone, and a word in season, how good it is.” -Proverbs 15:23
There is a story from days past about a lady who traveled away from home on a shopping trip. When she discovered a beautiful but expensive necklace she telegraphed home to ask her husband’s agreement to buy it. His reply was quick and to the point: “No, cost too much!” She was delighted to receive his answer, and went straight to the store to make her purchase. It seems that the telegraph operator left out the small punctuation mark that made a big difference in the meaning of the sentence; she read, “No cost too much!”
In the area of communication even the smallest stroke of the pen is powerful; a careless word, and the very way we say it can set a peaceful world on fire. The Bible says that there is more hope for a fool than there is for a person who is, “hasty in speech.”
Christians are charged to communicate the love of God. That means that every word we speak and every expression we make must be prayerfully and carefully chosen. “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” Proverbs 25:11.
When God gave His greatest expression of love to the world, He chose a single Word. The Word is a name: JESUS. When that Word is spoken devils tremble, fear departs, hope is restored, death is conquered, and life is abundant. That Word was punctuated by the cross, and there is no mistaking the meaning: GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD – And that means He loves you too!
“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus; there’s just something about that name. Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain; Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all Heaven and earth proclaim Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, But there’s something about that name. Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, But there’s something about that name.”
