Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
John 3:17
DEVOTION FOR TODAY, September 5, 2020
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Jesus never once condemned anyone in the Gospels, and there is no reason for us to attempt to do what Jesus would not. He came into a world where we were already condemned by our own sin. He had no plans to kick people who were down, but to save us from the mess that we have managed to get into.
The work of Christianity is not to point a finger in anyone’s face. Yes, we should point; but let us point to the Savior. We can have amnesia when it comes to grace that we have received. This is a good song for today’s prayer: “Roll back the curtain of memory now and then. Show me where you brought me from, and where I could have been. Remember I’m human, and humans forget, so remind me, remind me dear Lord.”
When we forget who we were before grace, we are soon to become spiritual snobs. Blessed is the man or woman who can say to one who is trapped in sin, “Jesus saved me from _________, and He is willing to do the same for you in your situation.” A Christian’s life should display the power of God’s Redeeming Love.
How many recommendations do we make in a day? We have found a great restaurant, we always seem to know what doctor a person should see, or what store has the best deals. The list of people and things we suggest to others is long. It is a blessing to recommend Christ to someone.
The Gospel song says, “There’s a name above all others, wonderful to hear, bringing hope and cheer. It’s the lovely name, the name of Jesus; evermore the same, what a lovely name.
What a lovely name the name of Jesus, reaching higher far, than the brightest star. Sweeter than the songs they sing in heaven; let the world proclaim, what a lovely name.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
