Isaiah 43:19
“I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
“GOING TO THE ROCK”
Sometimes what should be good news is not, at least in our worried minds. The children of Israel could go back home after many years of captivity. That was good news; but now they were old and tired, and the way was long and hard. How would they make it through the wilderness and the hot desert?
The Lord will never start us on a journey that we cannot finish. He always makes a way, even where there is no way. “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
Pat bought a copy of a devotional that has been around since 1925. It has given comfort to a multitude of people over the years. Even if you have read it, it is worth rereading. The book is, “Streams in the Desert” by L. B. Cowman. Many people can read it while knowing these same words comforted our loved ones before us.
We all need daily encouragement to get through our own wilderness, and to satisfy our thirst during times of spiritual drought. Many of God’s children are as the deer that pants for water in a dry and thirsty land. A song asks, “Where do I go when there’s nobody else to turn to? Who do I talk to when nobody wants to listen? Who do I lean on when there’s no foundation stable?”
Keep singing, the answer is coming: “I go to the Rock for my salvation, I go to the stone that the builders rejected… When the earth all around me is sinking sand, On Christ, the Solid Rock, I stand, When I need a shelter, when I need a friend, I go to the Rock.”
I know that these are discouraging times for many of us. Our values, and even our faith, do not flow the same direction as our society; but then, did they ever? Many of the wells where we once drank the living water are dried up. Don’t give up! Our Lord is always doing a new thing.
We can either spend our days bemoaning the dusty springs, or we can keep going while believing that somewhere ahead, and just in time, there is a river flowing from the throne of God. Once again, we will wade out in the water, swim, and drink, even in the desert.
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
