Psalm 126:2-3

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, March 26, 2020

“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’ The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Mack was a barber who loved the Lord. I remember him well from childhood days. He had what I call, “a Holy laugh.” It seems that he would get so full of the Lord that he would laugh out a quick but distinguishable sound. After his death there was an empty silence in the pew; but we could only imagine the laughter in Heaven.

Years ago someone painted a picture of “The Laughing Christ.” It’s hard to believe, but it caused quite a stir among some religious folks. Some seemed unhappy at the thoughts of Jesus being laughing happy. Others found it to be a true expression of what God desires for His children.

I am thankful to be the pastor of a joyful congregation where there is spontaneous laughter. The joy of Christ is our witness that we have a mighty God who is bigger than our problems and fears.

Laughter is medicine for the disquieted soul, and a symphony to chase away the blues. These are hard days right now, but there is an abundance of laughter in the storehouse of God. I suppose there can be laughter without love, but it has a chill. This I am sure of: There cannot be love without laughter; and God is Love.

“You’ve got to laugh a little, cry a little.
Until the clouds roll by a little.
That’s the story of.
That’s the glory of love.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
