“Grits and True Grit (The Gospel of Jesus Christ)”
“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Matthew 10:16
It doesn’t take much to entertain us. We sit on our porch and watch a squirrel doing a high wire act over the street, rabbits in the grass, or the neighbor’s dog walking its people down the sidewalk. Life is full of entertainment and all that you have to pay is attention. It’s like watching people eat grits in a restaurant. Some folks just don’t know what to do with that bowl of delicious southern delight.
I am reminded of the need for believers to revive some Christian grit. There are still rights and wrongs in this world that require us to stand up and be counted among the followers of Christ. Everyday Christianity cannot be lived without some Holy grit in our lives.
The question is, “How do we serve Christian grit?” When it is served with anger, hatred, and stubbornness then it is clear that it is not from the Kingdom of Heaven. Christian grits are to be served with GRACE. We can stand up for what we believe to be true and right without being unkind to anyone; Jesus lived that way as an example for us all.
Each morning I pray that God will help me to be “wise as a serpent, and harmless as a dove” throughout the day; and that I will be merciful to others, because the Lord knows that I will need plenty of mercy myself.
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
