Luke 15:32

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, March 30, 2020

“He was lost and is found.”

As we continue to practice self-isolation it has become a time of unplanned rediscovery. Suddenly there is time to clean out that closet and see what is in some of those boxes that haven’t been opened in years. If you are like us there are a lot of pictures and memories that were not forgotten; they just were hiding among the stuff. One of the stars in all this darkness is that life slows down so that memories can catch up.

Many of us are finding that slowing down is harder that we imagined. We have been on the treadmill at such a fast pace it is difficult to be still and get to know God, and ourselves, again.

The Bible has a lot to say about remembering. We are told to return to the old paths and walk in them. Of course we are not expected to return to the good old days, but there is great value in remembering some things that have been forgotten. It did seem to be a time when modesty, clean speech, kindness, respect and honesty had a front row seat in the way we lived.

The people of God are commanded to honor their Father and Mother if we want our days to be long on the earth. To forget the heritage that gave birth to our life and faith, is to soon forget who we are, and whose we are. When that happens our way of life on earth is endangered. Family and Faith are among our most treasured gifts that we have received.

Today is another day that the Lord has made. Do we dare to rediscover something old (a simple faith, a way of life, or a friendship) and make it new again?

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
