Jeremiah 12:5

THOUGHT FOR TODAY, September 25, 2019

“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets…”

Those words sound as if they came from my old Drill Sergeant in basic training. Who would have thought that they were from a prophet?

I had a friend who was a policeman of the Rambo type. He seemed fearless when it came to the bad guys, but he was afraid to mow a place in his back yard because he once saw a snake there. It’s often the little things that create our anxiety and problems.

I read about a man who once stood up in a church that had plenty of conflict and prayed, “Lord, deliver us from the gnats; we can take care of the elephants ourselves.” It seemed that they could manage the bigger things that came along, but were suffering from little irritants.

If we do not learn to be a Christian with the little things; how will we face the greater task that God has given us?

In that evil prison barracks that held Corrie Ten Boon and others, they learned to thank God for fleas. It was the fleas that kept the guards from coming inside to disrupt their prayers. (Little aggravations can be big blessings).

I was with a very kind Christian farmer who was holding a bee in his hand. It was so wet that it could not fly. He gently stroked it like one pets a puppy. “Aren’t you afraid it will sting you?” “No,” he said, “This little fellow can sting or give you honey, I’ll take the honey.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
