I Give You Jesus
“Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’ Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk…So he, leaping up, stood, and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.”
Acts 3:6-8
The man sat by the road begging and watching people go through the Beautiful Gate that opened to the Temple. He had been in this condition all his life, which was more than forty years. Had he become just a part of the landscape with folks paying no more attention to him than they would a stray dog. The daily reward in his beggar-bag was measly, but today his world was going to change.
The miracle of this story may not be what we think it is. What happened to the man is a consequence of the real miracle. This is the same miracle that we as Christians, as well as the Church, have been given the opportunity to offer every day. Who else can say, “I give you Jesus?”
Friends, we have been given what it takes to turn the world upside right, to put life back into those who live in despair, and to show the way through the Beautiful Gate of Heaven.
The Holy Spirit enabled Peter and John to notice a man that they had probably overlooked before. They knew the great wealth they carried with them everywhere they went. They had no need to be stingy with this treasure because their storehouse was full beyond measure. We too have been given this plethora of wealth to share. I found this treasure the day I found the Lord. He truly is the Pearl of Great Price. There is power in the name of Jesus, and there is enough of God’s grace and love for everyone.
