Psalm 37:25
“I have been young, but I’m older now”
I know of nothing that has more power to change everything than time. The old song says, “Time has made a change in the old home place. Time has made a change in each smiling face. And I know my friends can plainly see time has made a change in me.”
Today I should be saying “Happy Birthday” to my Mother, but instead I must say, “I miss you.” It is easy to live as though we have a guarantee of tomorrow upon this earth. We were not done needing her, but as a favorite song of hers says, “The Holy Hills of Heaven call me;” and she answered.
David said, “I have been young, but I’m older now” (Psalm 37:25). Well, that happens really fast, so now is the time to do all the good that we can.
Lent is a time of inventory. Do we know how wealthy we are in Christ? What treasures are we depositing in Heaven? The longer that we live in this life the more we realize the value of setting our minds and hearts on things above.
All the things that we can see and touch are temporary. It is the unseen that is eternal; they are the things that we can only know by faith. Life doesn’t consist of what we hold, but who holds us in the palms of His hands. Our brief time here on earth is a gift from God. What we do with it is our gift to Him.
Lent is a time to check your investments. How thankful are we for the people who invested in us; loved ones who sacrificed and gave every ounce of love they had so that we could have a good life on this earth? Give thanks for friends and people who care. Hug them while you can because the ticking clock of opportunities to love will not be rewound.
