“IN THE MASTER’S BOUQUET”

“My beloved has gone down to his garden, to the beds of spices, to browse in the gardens and to gather lilies.”

Our life on earth is a gift; and the beauty that surrounds us is only a shadow of the morning joy in a world where memories blossom into beautiful flowers of an unending day.

The child picked and pulled at flowers of many kinds, and put them in a Mason jar. Beauty is born in the heart and cultivated by love. Much money can be spent on baskets and vases of flowers; but they cheapen beside a child’s expression of love.

I knew a house with bent nails on the walls. Some would have never left them there; and might have even fired the carpenter. The dear saint that lived in that house saw them as beautiful. Many years had passed and they were precious memories. Her son, who was mentally challenged, had helped build the house; and they made a home.

The funeral was for a poor woman. She and her husband had struggled from the day that they married. She never forgot how rich she felt standing there with him beside her, and a bouquet of wildflowers in her hand. Now she was gone, and he couldn’t even afford the flowers she deserved. He went out on a Tennessee hillside and picked wildflowers one by one and each one with love. With a shoestring tied around them he placed them on a lonely casket. The old preacher who had the funeral told me that they were the most beautiful flowers he had ever seen.

I keep singing an old song. “Gathering flowers for the Master’s bouquet
Beautiful flowers that will never decay
Gathered by angels and carried away
Forever to bloom in the Master’s bouquet”

“Lord, Help us to live in simple love.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
