“Then I said, ‘O Lord, how long?” Isaiah 6:11
It isn’t unusual for me to sit down and look at the keyboard and not have any idea what the first word or subject is for the devotional. It can create anxiety as I wait and wonder, “Where do we go today Lord, where today?” Sometimes I write through eyes that are blurred with tears, other times with a silly grin. I never intended to write at all, it just happened and will continue until the Author of our faith says place the final period here.
A dangerous flaw we sometimes have is deciding that something is over when the Lord is telling us to keep going. Perhaps someone is feeling that way today.
God wants us to keep on with faith even when keeping on seems pointless. We can still play a new song when we would rather hang our harps in the weeping willows of “What’s the use.” Jesus taught us that glory is found on the other side of the cross, so don’t give up if you must carry it through a sinful world.
The world is not an easy place, and these are not easy days for many of you; it wasn’t for Jesus either. The hymn asks, “Must I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, while others fought to win the prize, and sailed through bloody seas?”
It has been said that the best way out is always through. Think of all that the Lord has already brought us through. We need not fear the valley of shadows when we know the Good Shepherd is with us. Keep on child of God, keep on my soul, and don’t forget that we are not home yet.
Here we raise our Ebenezer, our stone of hope. The Lord has helped us this far, and he will lead us on.
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
