Living the Resurrection – What do we do now?
“I am going fishing.” John 21:3
“For by the life and death of Jesus,
God’s mighty Spirit, now as then,
Can make for us a world of difference,
As faith and hope are born again.”
Faith can be elusive. It must have been that way for the disciples. Jesus had been crucified and buried, now He was alive. About the time Peter thought he had it all figured out; faith was gone again.
“I am going fishing,” that was Peter’s solution. “I was fishing when He first called me, and I will just go back to who I was before Jesus came into my life.” Peter would soon discover that no one can ever walk with Jesus and go back to who he/she once was.
That little boat would bounce on the water through the night with a rhythm that matched the beating of their aching hearts. Their souls were just as empty as their nets; and they knew that fishing days were over. There was a time when Peter loved the boats, the nets, and the smell of raw fish more than anything else, but now, all he wanted was Jesus. “Peter, do you love me more than these things?”
“Yes Lord, you know that I love you. “
God bless the morning when we want Jesus more than anything else; then the new day can begin.
“Christ is alive, and goes before us,
To show and share what love can do.
This is a day of new beginnings;
Our God is making all things new.”
