John 8:10
Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
A lady said in her inspiring testimony that she had been a spiritual snob. She said that she looked down on people who looked down on people. That was years ago; I wonder what she would think today. Our society is living in dangerous times. It is as though we have set free a pack of accuser hounds that are tearing each other apart. The Bible says, “If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” (Galatians 5:15)
Matthew 5:7
Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.” We had better get back to the merciful ways of God.
The little boy is throwing rocks at his sister. Mom says, “Stop!” He doesn’t throw any more as long as she is standing there, but when she goes back into the house he starts again. The problem is that the rock throwers are adults now; and they don’t like for Jesus to be standing too close by because then you can’t throw rocks anymore.
We are trying to have our cake and eat it too. A self-righteous society demands that we live in a world where we have a heavenly life with devilish ways.
When I come to worship I must bring my own sin and leave it at the altar. I can’t bear the weight of my guilt and the guilt of another. Why then should I be pointing a finger towards anyone else? It is time to point up to the one who has carried the weight of all our sin on His shoulders.
“Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.”
