Keep Believing and Trusting
“In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.”
1 Kings 6:7
I know that we can feel as though the chisel is put to us unfairly. The beating of the hammer may seem to come too often, and the blows too hard. This scripture gives a sense of purpose to it all.
In this life things can seem to have no point and be overly painful. Be assured that it will be worth it all when we see Jesus.
If the stones in the quarry had a voice, what would they say? Would they complain, or wonder what the mason was doing to them? What if the same stones could talk from their exulted place in the temple; would they rejoice at what the master had done?
Jesus is our Cornerstone, and He was certainly hammered and chiseled while on this earth. He accepted the unfairness of it all because it was the only way to save us.
As Christians we too are “living stones.” It is in this life that we are hammered and chiseled by many trials and hardships. In Heaven no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool will be heard. Today we might wonder why; but then we will understand it better. Don’t give up, keep believing and trusting.
The hammer and chisel will be laid down, and our suffering will not compare with the glory that we will know. The ashes of this life will be exchanged for the oil of gladness; and the night of tears will be joy in the morning. The Gospel song says, “I’ll leave it all behind someday – Someday no more heartaches; Someday no more sorrow; All heaven will be mine someday…”
