Psalm 55:22
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you.”
“LEAVE YOUR BURFEN WITH THE LORD”
Bishop William Quayle was quoted as saying, “I do not take any worries to bed with me.” Then he tells of lying awake and trying to hold the world together by his worrying, when God said, “Now William, you go to sleep and I’ll set up.”
How did you sleep last night? Did you remove your burden before you got in bed, or did you find no comfort because of a heavy load? I remember the day of moving to our new home and being so tired. We wished that we could wiggle our nose and the boxes would unpack themselves, but we were too tired to wiggle our nose.
You can leave a truck loaded until the next morning, but you don’t have to leave your soul heavy laden. At the end of the day a camel kneels before its master to have the burden removed from its back. Do we humble ourselves before our Lord and pray that the burden of the day be lifted?
I read of a man who was carrying a heavy sack when a person with a wagon stopped and offered him a ride. As the tired man took his place on the seat, he kept the sack on his shoulder. “You can put your load in the wagon,” the kind driver said. “No,” the man answered, “You already have a load, and I don’t want to add any more weight for the horse to pull.” I think that some of us do the same thing with God. We come to him in prayer, even rest in his strong hands, yet we continue to carry the weight of our burden on our own shoulders.
The hymn says, “Leave it there, oh, leave it there. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. If you would trust Him and never doubt, he would surely bring you out. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.”
