Psalm 118:24

THOUGHT FOR TODAY, September 14, 2019

“This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

She dreaded for her husband to find out how much that she had paid for the dress so she decided to model it for him, and then he would understand. It didn’t work so well when he heard the price. Then she said, “The devil made me do it.” You should have told him to get behind you, the husband said with a bit of a forgiving smile. She answered, “I did, and do you know what that old sly fox said to me? He said, “It looks real good back here too,” so I bought it.

I have two choices in life: to be a grumpy old man, or to dance with the spirit of joy. How can I pout and walk with God? A joyful Christian is good advertisement for salvation. Who wants to be like the grumpy soul, and the “stick in the mud” who thinks that we should come to Jesus and be like them?

Although the Bible doesn’t mention the laughing Christ, it is all over the Gospels because ordinary people loved Him, and children were drawn to Him. No one follows after a frowning, finger in your face, kind of person. In fact, the religious rulers accused the Lord of partying too much with the wrong kind of folks. The amazing thing is that those “wrong kind of folks” fell in love with God. Maybe we Christians today should be a little happier, and a lot less angry with each other.

God forbid that any of us become the dreaded church folks who bring dark clouds into everyone else’s day. “Gray skies are gonna clear up, put on a happy face. Brush off the clouds and cheer up, put on a happy face.”

The prophet Zechariah spoke of the time when the Shepherd would rescue us. He said that the saved would sparkle in the land like jewels in a crown (Zechariah 9:16). We have been rescued; let’s get the tarnish off and the sparkling smile back into the family of God.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
