Look for the Beautiful
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
Genesis 50:20
It is that time of the year again when skunks are on the prowl. I wonder, does Mr. Skunk say to his wife, “Sweetheart, you smell nice?” Does Mr. Porcupine say to his children, “Come give your daddy a hug?” You would think that they would appreciate social distancing. I guess that you can find good in almost every situation if you search long enough.
Have you ever said, “Why me Lord?” I have seen faith take a person from “why me” to “why not me?” Things that seem bad today may be the seed of something good tomorrow.
A man took me to visit his friend in the hospital. He was in a cast and on his back; he was also without Christ. He laughed and said, “I might know that you would wait until I was unable to run, and then sic a preacher on me.” He said yes to Jesus that day and went on to serve the Lord gladly. Now, he is forever with the Lord. A fractured bone for a healed soul and eternal life; he would tell you that God is good.
“Why me Lord?” There is another approach to the question. Remember the song. “What have I ever done to deserve even one of the pleasures I’ve known. Tell me Lord, what did I ever do that was worth loving you for the kindness you’ve shown?” Can’t we all say that we are blessed by the best?
Corrie ten Boom once described life’s hardships as a basketball that bounces back up each time it is thrown down. A little boy asked what if he threw it down real hard. “Oh,” she said, “It goes higher.” “What if I throw it down real, real, hard?” “That’s easy,” she answered, “It bounces all the way to heaven.”
Joseph’s brothers threw him down real hard; and God blessed him. He said to them, “As far as I am concerned, what you meant for evil, God turned into good.”
“Look for the beautiful, look for the true; Look for the beautiful, life’s journey through. Seeking true loveliness, joy you will know, as to the home above onward you go. Look for the beautiful, seek to find the true; God and the beautiful will dwell in you”
