“Ray Amos – Matthew 18:15-29”
From February 7th, 2024

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Read Matthew 18:15-29)

These are good words, but many have been disappointed by them. The disappointment did not come because they are not true, they are very true, but because of misreading what the Bible says. By itself this verse can seem like a blank check from Heaven. No verse stands on its own, but all stand together, and must be read that way.

The context is about reconciliation and unity in the body of Christ. It is not about getting enough people to ask for the same thing that you want, but people agreeing to Love like Jesus, to really care about what God wants for His children. The verse in its context demands that all selfishness, pride, and unkindness be cast aside like germ filled rags.

There are many people who want “stuff” from God, but who do not want God. We may need to return to praying like the early church in Acts. Those were powerful days for God’s people. Prayer and the Holy Spirit were the perfect combination for accomplishing great things for the Lord.

Every story in Acts is associated with prayer, and yet not a prayer is uttered for “stuff” to make life more pleasant, but for power and boldness to be true witnesses for Christ.

I asked a dying friend, “What do you say to God in the night?” She answered, “More of You God, More of You.” I held her hand and prayed for the same.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
