Rev. Ray and Pat Amos
“There is no other god like you, O LORD; you forgive the sins of your people who have survived. You do not stay angry forever, but you take pleasure in showing us your constant love. You will be merciful to us once again. You will trample our sins underfoot and send them to the bottom of the sea!” Micah 7:18-19
We once bought a Chevy Nova in Richlands, Virginia. The car salesman kept using the word “deal.” Ray Jr. was a little boy, and he was with me. When we got home he ran inside and proudly proclaimed that “we bought a deal.” Now every time we go through Richlands someone will say “there’s where we got our deal.”
I’d like to tell you how to get the best deal ever: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
There’s nowhere else in the world where you can get that. No religion offers it; and you are sure not going to get it from this society. Who else, but Jesus, offers you a clean slate and eternal life?
A friend told me that when he was a boy his father gave him corn seed to plant. After he did, then he could go to the movie. Instead of planting the seed he buried them in a stump, and went to town. All was well for a few days until no corn grew in the spot where he was to have worked. His entire defense failed when the nearby stump started growing corn.
“Be sure that your sins will find you out.” It seems like there is a great harvest of our ways going on in the land. Christians, this is a perfect time to turn up the light and let it shine. We have what is needed in times like these; we can offer the same Christ who has forgiven our sins and redeemed us. “I, yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.” (Isaiah 43:25)
God has given us the light to shine. It is not a spotlight to point out the sins of others, and neither is it a stage light to shine on the goodness we think we have. It is a light that leads people to the redeemer of us all. It beams a message that God has a deal for us. There is nothing that we have done that is beyond His mercy.
