MOSAIC OF THE CHURCH
“The LORD is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
There are beautiful mosaics that are often made of broken things (such as glass). I am reminded that the church is such a mosaic. It is made out of broken lives that have been gently placed there by the hands of God. He has always found a use for broken things.
By broken pitchers Gideon triumphed in battle. Paul and his companions survived shipwreck by clinging to broken pieces of the ship. Mary broke an alabaster box so she could pour its fragrant contents upon Jesus. Some thought that was a waste, but Jesus understood it as an act of extravagant love. That kind of love only happens when someone is willing to be broken and spilled out.
Jesus took bread and broke it. “This is my body, broken for you.” He was broken on the cross so that we, a broken people, can be made whole.
The gospel song invites us to, “Pick up the broken pieces, and bring them to the lord. Pick up the broken pieces, trust in his Holy Word.
He will put them back together, and make your life complete.
Just place the broken pieces at the Savior’s feet.”
Dear friend, if you feel as though you are broken, and there is nothing that you can do. God specializes in making life new. He is near to the broken hearted, and he is near to you. Heaven is a paradise of beautiful lives that were all once broken on earth. Give your broken pieces to Jesus when you pray. He makes all things beautiful in His time.
