Needing Prayers of Those We Love

“…speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.”

Ephesians 5:19

“I need the prayers of those I love,
While traveling o’er life’s rugged way,
That I may true and faithful be,
And live for Jesus every day.

I want my friends to pray for me,
To bear my tempted soul above,
And intercede with God for me.
I need the prayers of those I love.”

Where did you go old friends of mine. I miss your visits so. When I was happy, and when times were sad, you were always there with the needed words, and always, the right spirit.

Lord knows we took a lot of walks together and shared many tears. You started coming around in my childhood, and wherever I have traveled you have always been there with me. As it often is, there are newer friends taking your once happy place, and you do not get many invitations anymore. I guess that is the way it is, the old gives way to the new, but there is plenty of room for both. It’s just that some of my friends have been gone a long time.

Like the song above, somewhere in my life, songs and hymns became good friends. They gave meaning to my relationship with Jesus. Now that I am older, I like to visit with these old friends and reminisce. They sure can encourage you and bring back wonderful memories of people and places that made faith alive and real.

If you could sit awhile and enjoy the company of some of your old singing friends, who would they be? What are some of the old songs that you would like to hear again? Today, give thanks for old friends who live in worn out song books and church hymnals; and the singers who put rhythm in our feet, a smile on our face, a tear in our eyes, and happiness in our heart.

And yes, I need the prayers of those I love.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
