“The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire. When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.” Nehemiah 1:3-4
When things are impossible for us, we have a choice to either give up, or go to the one with whom all things are possible. Nehemiah wept and prayed because the walls of Jerusalem were destroyed. Then, God put him to that task of rebuilding. That was something bigger than he could ever do by himself.
Despite the interference of enemies and those who mocked , the wall was rebuilt in record time. What do the spiritual walls around our homes look like these days? Are we still surrounded and protected by faith, prayer, Christian love and goodness?
Jesus is the Master Carpenter of restoring broken lives. What seems impossible to us is always possible with God. We will be amazed again at what God can do when we pray and work together.
It is time for some rebuilding; time to get our faith up to date, our prayer life revived, and some fresh fruit of the Spirit back on the table. “Dear Lord, restore to us the joy, and the glory, of your salvation. Amen”
“Do you feel that there is no hope
Broken hearts cannot mend,
Christ can take the broken pieces
And make you whole again
Pick up the broken pieces
And bring them to the Lord
Pick up the broken pieces
Trust in His Holy Word
He will put them back together;
And make your life complete
Just place the broken pieces
At the Saviour’s feet.”
