Only Jesus Can Restore
“We would see Jesus.”
John 12:21
It was a simple request made by some Greeks. When Andrew told Jesus about it, he answered with unexpected words, “The hour has come…” It is important to remember that John had said that Jesus came to his own, and his own had not received him. Now others were seeking him, and it somehow began the countdown to the time of the cross. This is how God would love the world.
“We would see Jesus.” Are you among the ones who have a desire, a need, to see the Savior? There is good news: Jesus has come, and he is calling for you. What will you say when you come into his presence? How will you answer when he asks you to tell him your need? Do not answer too quickly, there is a difference between casual prayer, and truly meeting the Savior in such faith that it is as if you are seeing him face to face.
We fail in prayer because we ask so little that it is as though we are not praying at all. The old poem says, “Large petitions with thee bring, for thou art coming to a King.”
What greater request could I ask than to see Jesus? He alone can restore meaning to the life that has fled. Who but Christ can clean my tarnished soul, my broken life, and put his joy back into the empty well?
It is time to relearn some of the old hymns.
“We would see Jesus, for the shadows lengthen.
Across this little landscape of our life.
We would see Jesus, our weak faith to strengthen.
For the last weariness, the final strife.
We would see Jesus: this is all we’re needing.
Strength, joy, and willingness come with the sight.”
