“RAY AMOS – Path of Those Who Forget God – Job 8:13-14”

Job 8:13-14

“So are the paths of all who forget God;
And the hope of the godless will perish, Whose confidence is fragile,
And whose trust a spider’s web.

“Will you walk into my parlor said the spider to the fly. Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever you did spy.” (From the poem, “The Spider and the Fly” by Mary Howitt)

If you have lived in the country, you know how beautiful a spider’s web can be on a fence rail in the morning with the dew on it. It glistens like a diamond necklace in the early sun.

Spider webs catch us by surprise; no one deliberately walks into one. The beautiful pinwheel pattern transforms into an invisible trap. I don’t know if insects warn their young ones about the dangers out in the world, but let’s imagine that they do tell them all about the lurking spider on its web. To ignore the warning would be foolish and deadly.

Job’s friends are known mostly for being miserable comforters. Yet, we cannot rule out the wisdom they gave us. Bildad said the path of those who forget God will walk right into a spider’s web that you can’t just brush off. (See Job 8:13-14)

It doesn’t take much darkness to hide a web. That is why we must stay in the light of God’s word. In darkness I walked right into the web. I never did see the eight-legged guy when the web covered my face, but he was there.

Some are caught in a web that is deadly to the soul. You feel as if the chances for a good life are over, the harder you struggle the tighter the grip of what once was attractive. God’s specialty is untangling the messes we make in life. Why not give him a chance today?

“You may have longed for added strength
Your courage to renew
Do not be disheartened
For I have news for you.

It is no secret what God can do
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
