Jeremiah 6:16
“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
“Remember Ancient Paths; Ask for the Good Paths Forward and Rest the Soul”
This week Pat and I took a walk on a path that we strolled many times years ago. As it is with life, some things had changed, but it was mostly the same. I cannot recall our conversations back then. It was probably about our children, the ups and downs of life, the days ahead, and the church.
In our younger years we walked past the benches that gave rest to a tired traveler upon the path. This time we stopped to enjoy the comfort they offered. Our conversation was visited by many memories of folks that we have shared the path with. Youth rarely stops to rest and remember; their path ahead seems long and there is much to do.
Memories are made more precious with time. Perhaps we come to realize all the grace, the friends you have made, and the love of God that it has taken to bring us this far along the way.
It has been said that you should not dwell in the past. That is true, but neither should we forget it because in a wonderful way when we get to where we are going, we will embrace our past in joyful reunion with those we miss so much today.
Looking back where we have been I see the fingerprints of God. Each one is unique, but I have come to realize what they look like. They are the memories of people who have been the hands of God, and who have touched all of us in a million wonderful ways.
Dear friends, wherever you are on the path of life today; keep walking, but do not forget to stop and rest and remember the words we have sung the whole journey long:
“Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
