Romans 5:7-8

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, November 17, 2020

“Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus did not wait until we were ready for his love. He threw it all out there for anyone who would want it. He did not demand anything from any person for them to be loved. If that had been the case, then grace would have been worthless.

The truth is that we cannot be changed until we first accept his love just as we are. We have seen stray dogs that have been abused enough to become vicious. Some of those same animals have been transformed into loving pets because someone redeemed them from a cruel life, loved them and brought them into their family and home. Isn’t that what Jesus did for you and me?

Love is far less complicated than hate; it is also extremely rewarding. It is not painless (just think about the cross), but it is the kind of pain that in time turns briar patch relationships into beautiful lilies of the field. It is God’s love that will someday restore this broken world to what it was intended it to be.; and on that day we will live with Him in paradise.

“The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
