Ephesians 3:17
“…rooted and established in love…”
Many beautiful flowers have been rooted from another plant. A root is taken and placed in water for a brief while, and then planted in soil. It then begins to grow roots deeper into the ground, as it also grows taller reaching toward the sun above.
It is the prayer of Scripture that we are rooted in Love. This happens when Christ lives in our very being. When roots grow deep into the heart of God; then life grows tall and beautiful as it daily reaches toward Heaven above. Such Christians bring strength, hope and godliness to a world that has become weedy. Every Christian blooms and bears fruit that reminds us that we all are (and can be) made in the image of God.
To be rooted is to be deeply established, and firmly committed. We live in challenging times. Society has a way of pulling the wool over our eyes and convincing us that wrong is right and right is wrong. Do our roots go deep enough into the fields of God’s Holy Word that we cannot be fooled? We must be like the Bereans of Acts 17:11, who received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what we are being told is true.
A person who is rooted in Love stands immobile through fear and storms. “Perfect Love cast out all fear.” When other trees bend and shake through the tempest of life, the mighty oak stands tall against the winds. Sure some oaks fall; but they stood without bending, just as the cross on Calvary’s hill stood without yielding to Satan’s most powerful breath of evil. As the hymn Reference Verses 3 & 4:
That Cause Can Neither Be Lost nor Stayed
Written by: Kristian Ostergaard 1855-1931, Translated by Aaberg, J. C. (Jens Christian) of Denmark, 1877-1970
1 That cause can neither be lost nor stayed
Which takes the course of what God has made;
And is not trusting in walls and towers,
But slowly growing from seeds to flowers.
2 Each noble service that has been wrought
Was first conceived as a fruitful thought;
Each worthy cause with a future glorious
By quietly growing becomes victorious.
3 There by itself like a tree it shows:
That high it reaches as deep it grows
And when the storms are its branches shaking,
It deeper root in the soil is taking.
4 Be then no more by a storm dismayed,
For by it the full-grown seeds are laid;
And though the tree by its might it shatters,
What then, if thousands of seeds it scatters?
