Hebrews 11:31-12:3

THOUGHT FOR TODAY, September 17, 2019

“…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of faith”

When it comes to Faith there are names that automatically come to mind: like Noah, Abram and Sarah, Moses; but today’s text begins with the faith of ordinary people. They did not do great things because of faith, but made it through life (and all its trials) by faith. It was rewarding to some, and Faith actually made life on earth difficult for others; but they never gave up the race. They knew that there was some better thing beyond the sunset of life.

C. H. Spurgeon said, “Little faith will bring you to Heaven; Great faith will bring Heaven to you.”

The Bible did not say that we would all do great things by faith; but that we would live by it. This is for all of us: The people in today’s verses were not the saintliest people you could find, some had records that were tarnished; but they ended up with a good report. I find that to be very good news.

Do you know that there are people who are too good for this world? They live humble and simple lives with their feet on earth and their heart in Heaven. This world is not their home, they are just passing through; they know not to settle down here because God has provide some better thing. These lovers of God press on by faith that the promise of eternal and a better day will be kept, and the entire journey will be worth it all.

“It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.”

The green flag for the Christian’s race is waved in this life, and the checkered flag is waved in “a land beyond the river that they call the sweet forever.” Imagine who all is waiting on us there.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
