John 4:42
“We no longer believe just because of what you said, now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
“Savior of the World”
Many of us grew up with Christian examples all around us. These witnesses for Christ did not think of themselves as such. They simply lived their faith the best they could with whatever came their way; and as for me, I saw, heard, and believed because of them.
We learned to pray because our parents, family and neighbors prayed. Most days life was peaceful and pleasant, but there were times when they were dreary, or storms swept through. We saw faith in down to earth people that was as steadfast as the mountains around us.
As a pastor who has been preaching over half a century, I realize how insignificant our work would be without the faithfulness of the Christian Community. God chose the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe, but it is the faithfulness of believers who confirm the message.
People are watching and listening to us all. Will we be “the salt of the earth” for them? Will others thirst for God because of you and me?
Folk may come to the fountain because we say that the water is good, but they come back because they tasted for themselves and found it so.
“I’ve found my Lord and He is mine,
He won me by His love;
I’ll serve Him all my years of time,
And dwell with Him above.
His yoke is easy, His burden is light,
I’ve found it so, I’ve found it so;
His service is my sweetest delight,
His blessings ever flow.
“We no longer believe just because of what you said, now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” John 4:42
