Shepherd with Us

“Rejoice with me, I have found my sheep.”

Luke 15:6

The storm was fierce and the plane was tossed like a kite in the bouncing wind. The young pilot was only a few weeks past his solo flight and now the fear and loneliness of a troubled flight had come too soon. His instruments and radio were knocked out, the clouds were thick, and the night was dark. Unable to communicate he wondered, “Why Lord?” as he flew through a pathless and stormy sky. That was when another plane suddenly appeared so close that their wings seemed as one.

“The just shall live by faith.” Those words are not unknown to us, and when placed in their rightful context they bring us peace and encouragement to keep on when we feel alone and ready to give up. Habakkuk wrote those words during a dark time when the world seemed determined to go the way of destruction; and God seemed silent.

The other pilot gave a signal to follow him, and then a “thumbs up.” It was a “Shepherd’s Flight,” who had come to lead a lost soul home. A new faith was required; the young pilot must trust every split-second decision of his guide. Together they would dive and chase the skies with silver wings; they would brush the face of God, and land safely home.

Do you feel a bit lost in a troubled time of life? “Sometimes I get discouraged and think my work’s in vain. But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.” We too have a “Shepherds Flight,” and we do not travel the dark valley alone. He calls us by name and says, “Follow Me.” He gently leads His little ones home.

“Savior, like a shepherd lead us. Much we need Thy tender care.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
