Song of Solomon 3:8b

“…because of fear in the night.”

Did you ever wake up in the dark of the night because worry was calling your name? Troubles get restless in the night; and trouble loves company. What do we do when we awaken with that sinking feeling in the pit of our stomach? These words of Jesus are helpful, “Become as little children.”

What do children do when they are afraid at night? In loving and caring homes, they run to their parents’ arms. Our Heavenly Father cherishes the times when we come to Him. “Cast all your cares upon Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Some days we feel like singing, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen.” Don’t forget to sing the rest of it, “Glory, Hallelujah!” Sure, we all have trouble; but we also have God.

We were always pleased when our children brought broken things for us to fix; yet it hurts when they have broken hearts and troubles that we can’t repair. Then we do what other Mothers and Fathers did in the Gospel stories: We bring them to Jesus. We are limited in what we can do, but with God all things are possible.

Is there something that you need to run to Jesus with? His storehouse is abundant in love and grace. “There is bread and enough to spare.” In His presence all the little lambs are safe from the wolf. Weeping may endure through the night, but the Bright and Morning Star is announced by joy.

Children of God, when the shadows in the night seem alive and frightening, remember the hymn: “I must tell Jesus all of my trouble; I cannot bear these burdens alone. Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
