Ezekiel 47:5
“…the water had risen, enough water to swim in.”
“SPIRITUAL WATERS”
Several years ago a man was taking me to visit someone. I was riding in his work truck. It was a very hot day and we were on a bridge. Suddenly he stops, gets out and jumps off the bridge into the lake. I get out and go to the side of the bridge and see him swimming. “Come on in preacher, the waters cool.” I suggested that it might not be so good for the preacher to show up at his friend’s house soaking wet.
As we rode on to make the visit I wondered what had I missed by not taking the dive. Whatever it was, I was glad to have missed it.
In Ezekiel’s vision a man steps out in the water with a measuring line. He seems to be measuring how far a person can go with God. The water was first ankle deep, then knee deep, waist deep, then deep enough to swim in.
How deep are we willing to go in our relationship with God? Are we ready to stop and jump into the waters of God’s redemption and love?
Peter preached that we can have our sins wiped out, and that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, (Acts 3:19).
Labor Day weekend is upon us. For all who are feeling tired, hot, and dry; I can’t recommend that you do what my friend did. I do recommend what Peter preached: that we repent and come to Jesus. Don’t just wade a little way into the water; jump in and swim.
“Step into the water,
Wade out a little bit deeper,
Wet your feet in the water of His love.
Step into the water, Wade out a little bit deeper,
Come join angels singing praise to the Lamb of God.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
