1 Thessalonians 5:18

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

“THANKFUL IN EVERYTHING”

“God’s goodness hath been great to thee. Let never day nor night unhallowed pass but still remember what the Lord hath done.” –Shakespeare

Not everything that comes our way is the will of God, but it is the will of God that we are always thankful. This is not because He feeds off our thankfulness, but a thankful heart is an encouraged heart. The one who is thankful still believes that he/she is not alone; that God still cares, still is with you, and will get you through.

Start with the simple and what may be called, “the little things.” A person enjoys much who is thankful for a little; a grateful mind is a happy mind.

Next, we can count our blessings instead of our “don’t haves.” We may discover that there is more than we think. When faced with a crowd of five thousand people to feed, the disciples told the Lord there wasn’t enough. He told them to go and see what they did have (count their blessings). “Two loaves and three fish,” was their reply. He took them in His hands, gave thanks to God, and little became much.

Give thanks because today and tomorrow are always in God’s hands. When God’s people believed they had more than they could endure as a nation, God promised:
“I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have compassion on his dwellings; the city will be rebuilt on her ruins…from them will come SONGS OF THANKSGIVING and the sound of rejoicing…I will bring them honor…their children will be as the days of old, and their community will be established before me…You will be my people, and I will be your God” (from Jeremiah 30:18-22).

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
