Hebrews 6:19

“The Ark of Safety”

There were many discoveries when the Berlin wall came down. Perhaps the greatest was to find that the church had not only survived a dark and difficult time in their history; but in fact, it was stronger in heart than the churches in the free world.

There are some things in this life that we don’t have to waste our time worrying about because we already know the outcome. One such thing is the question, “What will happen to the Church?” It doesn’t matter what denomination we are in fellowship with; sooner or later we all face some challenges.

The church is sometimes called the Ship of Zion; and it has taken some battle scars, but it remains seaworthy and will safely dock in the Haven of Rest someday. The important thing for us is to be on board, and trust the Captain to get us home. That is why we sing, “Tis the old ship of Zion, get on board, get on board.”

When the waters get rough and the storms are raging, we don’t drop anchor, but with prayer we anchor up to a Rock in Heaven. “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (Hebrews 6:19). The Gospel song encourages us to be very sure that our anchor holds and grips the solid rock. This Rock is Jesus, yes He is the One, this Rock is Jesus, the only One.”

God gave me a place to Love and serve Christ in the United Methodist Church, just as He placed any of you where you are; but there is only one ship of Zion on which all believers sail together. The port of Heaven will only dock one ship; and it will land safely there. What will happen to the Church? When the storms have lost their breath, and the last shell has been fired from the cannons of hell; she will sail on in perfect peace.

The Church is not made of denominations but believers. That puts the responsibility on each of us. Child of God, you are the Church, and I am the Church when we sail with Jesus. “The Ark of Safety” is strong and secure. “It was good for my dear Mother, It was good for my dear Father, It will take us all to Heaven; and it is good enough for me.”

What will happen to the Church? She will stay in the waters, spread the Gospel, rescue the perishing, feed the hungry, care for the dying, bring hope to the hopeless; she will keep on!

Grace and Peace,
