Mark 10:16

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, August 22, 2019

“And he took them up in his arms, put [his] hands upon them, and blessed them.”

I can think of no other part of the body that does the bidding of the heart more than the hands. When a newborn child wraps its little hand around our finger, we realize that we are holding the closest thing to Heaven that is upon this earth. Turn around and those little hands are older and worn with time. When we can no longer communicate or do anything else in this life; we can still hold hands.

Do you realize that all four gospels are about God who came to touch us? You would be hard pressed to find any other religious leader in the Gospel touching anyone. Jesus didn’t toss grace to people; but rather he handed the love of God to them. They felt the touch of perfect Love. Did you ever sing this song? “Glory, glory, glory, somebody touched me. Glory, glory, glory, somebody touched me. It must’ve been the hand of the Lord…”

“The hymn says, “Jesus’ hands were kind hands, doing good to all.” That is true: They are nail scarred with redeeming love, and secure hands from which no evil can pluck us out of. They can be heavy upon us with loving chastisement, yet gentle enough to wipe away tears from our eyes. When He died, Jesus committed His spirit into the HANDS OF GOD. His resurrection declared that those hands were stronger than death.

“He touched me, oh He touched me
And oh the joy that floods my soul!
Something happened and now I know
He touched me and made me whole.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
